Two things

Thing 1:
Reposted from Taylor.A.Smith in the comments of SB81 post:
I find it interesting that we will be celebrating the greatest act of illegal immigration in a couple of weeks- after all, on July 24, 1847 Utah was still part of Mexico, and Brigham and the Saints didn’t have permission to be here…
Thing 2:
Terms and Conditions:
1. Marriage must last a minimum of 5 years.
Big props for creativity. (Jeep pictured, click link for the rest.)

Thing 1 is a load of malarky. The Mexican constitution of the time actually encouraged immigration to Mexico. This was not changed until after the Mexican-American War, long after the pioneers had settled in Utah. Just another classic example of applying modern law to historical situations for political gain.

Well, the pioneers did come in during the middle of the war. Anyone know how Mexico might have felt about a bunch of Americans coming onto their turf while they were at war with them?
