Thing 1 is a load of malarky. The Mexican constitution of the time actually encouraged immigration to Mexico. This was not changed until after the Mexican-American War, long after the pioneers had settled in Utah. Just another classic example of applying modern law to historical situations for political gain.
Well, the pioneers did come in during the middle of the war. Anyone know how Mexico might have felt about a bunch of Americans coming onto their turf while they were at war with them?
