I want to know who came up with that and what purpose it serves other than to put the ell-gee's face out there One More Time. For more hilarity, check the exact same wording of the first sentence in the pop-up with the site behind it in the upper left corner. 2010, here he comes!

You know, it's been that way as long as I can remember.
You know, it's entirely possible that I've been visiting the state's election site instead of the LG's site for what I cover. In which case, I concede that it may not be new. On the other hand, still completely unnecessary and completely self-serving.
Looks like their web department found a nifty new feature to use and just HAD to put it up there. I agree, it's completely unnecessary (other than giving me a laugh).

Just like this entire blog, eh?
Anon: Yes exactly like this blog except funded by taxpayer dollars for what is borderline campaigning. But hey, nice zinger. Now slink off back to your anonymous hole.
Sorry, Joe Pyrah (who pays for this Blog, BTW) - but have you ever visited any other elected officials' websites before, or are you new to the genre. Try checking out Huntsman's website one time. He even has *gasp* a VIDEO of himself on it.
I have to ask some questions:
1. are you new to covering elected officials?
2. have you ever perused their websites?
3. are you totally unfamiliar with 'welcome' messages or that huntsman and herbert's websites have been up for 4 YEARS?
4. what's your beef with Herbert all the sudden relative to his perfectly normal, elected-official, website?
5. or are you just trying to be a snide, self-important, know-it-all journalist?
Most of those questions are hypothetical, of course, as we all know the answers...

The blog is free, but I'm paid by the Daily Herald.
1) Nope
2) Yep
3) Pop-up welcome messages with wording that already appears on the front page of the site itself is at the very least obnoxious. Maybe I'm over the top with the campaigning bit. Maybe not.
4) Of course their sites have been up for four years. And they've been overhauled several times. My particular beef is with this particular iteration, though it may not be brand new, which I've already conceded.
5) I'm not trying, it comes naturally.
And you meant "rhetorical" not "hypothetical." But that's just the know-it-all part of me coming out.
Snark aside, welcome to the site. I don't mind the questions and input, as often visitors have different perspectives and more knowledge than I do.
